Kirana Megatara's Participation in Jakarta Food Security Summit (JFSS) 2018

On March 8 – 9th, 2018 Kirana Megatara (KM) Group participated in the Jakarta Food Security Submit in JCC Senayan - Jakarta. The activity was initiated by business actors as one of the continuous efforts to support national food security and improve productivity of farmers. Not only that, this event hopefully become a forum that brings together government, private parties, organizations, communities, farmers, and academics in one place. JFSS’s theme for this year was "Equity on Economic Sector of Agriculture, Farms and Fisheries Through Policy and Partnership."

Widjaja said theme for JFSS was taken to encourage business climate in Indonesia to be more conducive. Not only involving the government, JFSS activities also equipped with exhibition of national food commodity  products and innovation of the latest agricultural financing technology.

KM Group also opened booth in JFSS. The company hopes with participate in these activities, the problems of rubber commodities, such as rejuvenation of rubber plantation, can encourage government policy or presidential regulation for rejuvenation under the BPDP scheme (Badan Dana Dana Perkebunan). 

 

On that booth, KM Group presented extensive plantation data as well as comparison of rubber’s prices in 1970, 2017, and the present. Also, the company invited two people from the company's farmers Endro Wibowo from Muara Enim and Dartono from Musi Banyu Asin - South Sumatra to share their experiences about the benefits of partnering with the private sector and expressed their hopes to government about the rubber industry Endro said pursue jobs as a rubber farmer was not without barrier.

 

Before he joined with KM Group, he did not have access to sell his rubber product except to the middleman. This situation has changed since Endro joined to the company in 2015. KM Group actively provides free farmers coaching, give the best seed, correct rubber processing, and buy the farmer’s product with guaranteed price. 

 

Currently, Endro Wibowo owns 1 ha of rubber plantation with 4 years old trees, ½ ha planted with 2 year old trees, while 1 ha was replanted. He hopes that another farmers will cooperate with company, so they can improved the quality and production of rubber.
