PT Kirana Permata & Pirelli provided scholarship assistance for 80 farmer’s children of rubber

PT Kirana Permata (KPT), a subsidiary of PT Kirana Megatara Tbk (KMG) in collaboration with global tire manufacturer, Pirelli, on 29 December 2022 held a CSR activity in the form of scholarship assistance for 80 farmer’s children of rubber (elementary, junior high and high school levels) across the region of Muara Enim district, South Sumatra. This activity which was also supported by the Lubai District also presented various competitions for rubber farmers and counseling on rubber cultivation and a sustainable natural rubber program aimed at increasing the knowledge of rubber farmers. This is a concrete manifestation of PT Kirana Permata and Pirelli's commitment to always be close to and support small farmers.

Activities which was held at the Hall of Lubai District Office, who was attended by Chief Sustainabiliy Officer Kirana megatara (Mr. Widyantoko Sumarlin), Representative from Pirelli Singapore (Ms. Jocelyn Cheng), Operational Director of PT Kirana Permata (Mr. Cong Chia) and his staff, Head of Lubai Sub-District ( Mr. M. Faisal Al Akhmed S.STP, MSI), Kapolsek Rambang Lubai (Mr. AKP. Hendrinad, SH, MH), Danramil Rambang Lubai (Mr. Infantry Captain Sugiyanto), and several representatives of local goverment. There were more than 200 people who participated in this event.

Widyantoko Sumarlin said that Kirana Megatara is very focused on staying close to smallholder, including helping to improve their welfare both through providing scholarships to farmer's children to ease the burden on farmers' lives, as well as through increasing the capacity of farmers so that their rubber yields can be better in quantity and quality.

On the same occasion, Jocelyn Cheng in her remarks said "Pirelli and Kirana Megatara are committed to sustainable natural rubber and contribute to the progress of stakeholders, especially for smallholder. We also hope that the children of farmers can get an education and plan for a brighter future”. She doesn’t  forget to express his gratitude to the farmers who have been supplying natural rubber.

Not only that, M. Faisal Al Akhmed added that so far Kirana Permata is considered to be very concerned and continues to contribute to the community around the factory. Not forgetting that he hopes for an increase in the price of rubber so that farmers can be more enthusiastic about tapping their rubber tree.

In the event,  30 farmer groups were participated in a tapping competition, a quiz competition and a guessing competition on the quality of the Bokar. One of the farmers, Darminson, said that this event was very entertaining and was able to increase the knowledge of small farmers. "Hopefully this activity can continue to be held every year" he added.

The amount of scholarships given is Rp 2.5 million/child for elementary schools, Rp 3 million/child for junior high schools and Rp 3.5 million/child for senior high schools. One of the scholarship recipient parents, Hamami, expressed his gratitude for the scholarship assistance given. "This assistance will be used to buy school children's needs such as shoes, clothes, books, etc," added Hamami.
